The environment is a topic of great importance in our lessons. Especially in April where we think about spring, renewal and also celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd.

Lessons about the earth can be very simple. They don’t have to be elaborate, planned things. Here are a few suggestions in that vein.

Lessons about our home - planet earth.

1. Get out of the classroom if possible. Field trips, excursions, pick up garbage in the school yard. But speak English! Walk around and have students identify the flora and fauna in the local environment. What landforms can they name?

2. The 3 Rs. Do a lesson plan around Reduce | Reuse | Recycle. Students simply brainstorm ideas and make a poster to present to the class. How can your school do better?

3. Make a mini book. Students fold one piece of paper, make a book called, MY EARTH. Students draw pictures, label, the write about things that make their earth important.

4. REAL English. Write a letter to a member of parliament, the UN., the WWW, about what you want our leaders to do. Save animals, plant trees, fight pollution. The ideas are important and students will get motivated by a REAL task. An extension - invite a scientist, someone working in the field of ecology, a farmer or others - to visit your classroom and speak with students. Zoom or face to face.

5. Video. Video (like the one above) can bring the topic to life. Here are a few of our recommended videos about planet earth.
