This attractive “thinking” template can be used for many teaching situations.
It is perfect for the first part of a lesson and assessing student knowledge of the topic or vocabulary. Alternatively, it can be a way to reflect on learning after a lesson.
It’s an example of what our lesson library does best. Call them “organizers”, “one-pagers”, “templates” - they are the perfect supplement for a lesson or can also be the whole enchilada, a full lesson material.
See our whole selection of so many different types of organizers and templates for teachers - handy to use and almost instant lessons! Highly recommended too, our Templates For Teachers collection.
There are so many ways to use these types of open-ended, student centered, very language friendly materials. Here are just some ways …
Pre-assessment. Find out what your students already know. Vocabulary, expressions, topic knowledge. See our KWL example here.
A lesson hook. A collaborative way to get students priming their background knowledge, brainstorming the topic etc …
Reports. Book, Video, Film reports of all kinds. Just provide a template for students to fill in the required information. Also, reviews.
Research projects. Like reports. Students fill in the one-page and then report back to the class about a topic, person etc … See our research tag for ideas.
Poetry. Give students a template and they fill in to complete their poem. Acrostic, grammar, tanka and more … See this collection.
Lists. To do lists. Top 10 lists. Pros and Cons. Sequencing/Steps. Provide the organizer and criteria and let students make their list.
Tracking. Words/Vocabulary and so many other things can be tracked with a nicely designed, simple template.
Story writing. Provide an organizer for students to summarize the story and break it down by character, plot, setting etc … Or use a template for students to summarize the story in their own words - see our 6 sentence story template.
Enjoy using templates and let us know in the comments or on LinkedIN ELT Professionals - how you use your own templates. So many ways!
