David, I completely agree—creativity transforms the classroom! I’ve seen it firsthand in my work writing ESL books and developing school curricula for English teachers in Sweden. Stories, in particular, have been a game-changer for engaging students in language learning.

That’s why I started Viking Kite, a Substack where I share free stories, audiobooks, and lesson plans to help teachers bring creative storytelling into their classrooms. It’s all designed to make life easier for teachers and learning more engaging for students.

Would love for you (or anyone here) to check it out: https://open.substack.com/pub/vikingkite?r=36mqme&utm_medium=ios. Always happy to connect with fellow educators who believe in making learning creative and fun!

Sorry for the late reply. Currently crossing the USA on a bike! 3 days in. i will take a look, once upon a time used to give workshops on storytelling and learning English. Also, created a failed, Storybird like platform - Gif Lingua. It failed but did a lot of good too. Will take a look.

I will check it out. Storytelling comes and goes in fashion in our field but it shouldn’t and should be a mainstay. Lang. and narrative are very interwoven and too filled with natural curiousity, that deep human soul ingredient we all have in spades - especially when it is local and contextualized. Good stuff.

Couldn't agree more. I'm starting up a research project with UK and Swedish Unis to look at best practice for teachers using stories in the classroom. I'll keep you updated with any surprising findings. I also use my network of Scandinavian schools to keep me updated on where teachers' minds and needs are at. Do you know my educational series Good Stuff? Or was that a weird coincidence?

Sounds wonderful! I’ve only been to the States a couple of times and only a couple of weeks each time. Have a great and safe trip!
