Not Like The Others

It's a very creative lesson approach - students identifying differences

I’m currently far away from civilization, on a lonely, desolate, beautiful, cold beach and in a resort, trapped with 100 beautiful energetic tweens. Long days of teaching but enjoying getting back to my teaching roots, teaching middle schoolers. So for a few more weeks, my posts might not be too numerous.

One thing the kids love and I love too are lessons where they put on their creative thinking hats and use English to think and solve problems, identify and come up with solutions.

One set of materials I’ve been using from our Lesson Library are those that focus on “differences”. What is the odd one out? What’s the difference between photo A and photo B. And of course the classic Sesame Street version - One Of These Things Is Not Like The Others.

So I’d like to share some resources I’ve created and in our Lesson Library for these activities.

  1. One of These Things Is Not Like The Others. Find a nice pptx with the song and a quiz and more resources for this unique game. Give students time to think creatively then take answers.

  2. Odd One Out. We have both flashcards and worksheets for this activity. Students identify which of the four things is “different”.

  3. Spot The Differences. Classic. Show two similar pictures and have students make statements about what the differences are.

  4. 3 Things In Common. Students identify what the things have in common.

I got a nice email and review of our One Of These Things activities on TpTs, where you can find our cards and pptx for the game. These activities really work!

Enjoy the activities and happy teaching this 2024!
